Biography

Mieko Tarrius (she/her) is a doctoral candidate in geography and urban studies. She holds a bachelor's from Paris 8 University, a master’s in political science from Paris 8 University/City College of New York, and a Master of Arts from l’Université du Québec à Montréal. Grantee of major awards and fellowships, Tarrius has served as a visiting scholar, guest lecturer and teaching/research assistant at various institutions in Montreal and New York. Her work has been published in media outlets and peer-reviewed journals in France and Canada. Her dissertation aims to expose the racial dynamics of tech-led gentrification in Park Extension in Montreal, and University City, Philadelphia. Using ethnographic and visual-based methods, Tarrius investigates how this complex and multi-faceted process stimulates and is framed by race and whiteness.
